Confused about your calling? Worried if it will please God?
Have you had times in your life, when you dream of achieving many things and you have heck of a lot of trouble in making a decision as you become overwhelmed weighing out the pros and cons?
Then trying to think,
“does God really want to me to go for this?” ,
“Which of these things would He really approve of”,
and then you ponder.
And then you think it through.
You analyse it.
You obsess over it.
You check if it matches your schedule.
You check if you have the time to do it, you check if you have the means and the resources to do it.
Then you think,
“Is a godly person supposed to do this?”,
“Will God really approve of this?”,
“Will those around me or are dear to me support me for this?”,
“Will I be able to believe in achieving this and will be able to hold out till the end by remaining consistent?”
And then after all the pondering, you have no energy or enthusiasm to actually pursue any of the things you wish to achieve, leaving you miserable and devastated.
Basically you are overthinking and hence feel stuck in a rut.
There are times in my life when I’m filled with self-doubt and then I try to rely on God. But then again I get mental blockages where I even feel what if God does not want me to go for my dreams?
Well is there a solution to this?
Of course there is.
In Fact there is only a single solution to this and it is to “do the work”. That’s it, simple as that!
Stop the thinking, the analyzing, the rating and shut out everything your brain is weaving to prevent you from doing it and just do what you feel in your heart regardless. And if it doesn’t turn out the way you intended you can always change it or improve it or forget it and move on to the next thing.
If you have been pondering ideas in your head for quite a long time and the thought keeps nagging you then that means your ideas are worth considering. Mark my words I dint say “worth carrying out” I said “worth considering”.
The only way you can get out of that head and know if you should really carry out what you wish to achieve is to get yourself to do the little that you possibly can in the direction of achieving your goals. That’s how you can consider before you can fully carry it out.
Like the old saying, if you do not know the ocean at least test the waters on the shore. But how will you know until you at least start to “do” something.
I know, I know, now you may go like, “But what if I don’t like it or don’t carry it through or worse FAIL!”.
Well at least you will know that! That, yea you thought you would like it but you don’t or you thought you could carry on doing it for a long time but you know after all it is not worth it or that you have to step up your game or improvise or even if you fail you will know how to do it better from the mistakes you learnt when you failed; but let me ask you, how can all this be known until you start, until you actually “do the work”.
God understands you.
No, God is not going to be mad at you for all these feelings and thoughts overwhelming you. But yes,
He will direct you.
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you” – Psalm 32:8.
He knows your weaknesses.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9
He knows your limitations.
“With man this is impossible”-Matthew 19:26
He knows you are confused.
“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” – Jeremiah 17:9
He knows you are not perfect.
“We all stumble in many ways” – James 3:2
He knows you are only human and that you need Him.
“…for apart from me you can do nothing” – John 15:5b
And He is more than happy to help
I made you and will care for you; I will give you help and rescue you. – Isaiah 46:4b
But first you have to be willing to clear your head of all those limiting thoughts and START.
How to start?
Firstly, start with a prayer.
May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands. – Psalm 90:17
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart – Colossians 3:23
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” – Matthew 7:7
Fourthly, Seek His help in guiding you.
Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. – 1Chronicles 16:11
Finally, trust in Him completely. He will lead the way.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3: 5 -6
Maybe He may ask you to change your course, maybe He may ask you take a detour, maybe He may show you why this path was not meant for you, may be He may help you to grow as person, maybe He may help you evolve to serve others better, maybe He may give you experiences so you can empathize others’ situation and hence give them encouragement.
But, dear friend unless you start, unless you stop thinking and get out of your head and get out there and actually do the work, how can you expect Him to help you?
How can He tell you whether He likes your ideas or not?
How can He show you whether its meant for you or not?
You are unique. The world awaits YOU
Remember God has entrusted you with abilities and unique gifts. Let me say that again because I want you to take this seriously not just skim read.
HE HAS ENTRUSTED YOU WITH ABILITIES AND UNIQUE GIFTS
Things only you were meant to do in this world however small or big.
No one but You!
Yes you there.
Nobody is useless in God’s kingdom. However small or incapable you may seem to the people of this world and even to yourself, you are not small for God to work His wonders through you.
(nothing is impossible for God vs)(in me you bear much fruit).
You are valuable to Him because He made you preciously (psalms vs fearfully and wonderfully made).
He created you with a purpose; a purpose only known to Him, a purpose He will show you if you ask Him and are willing to “do the work”.
You may ask, “But what is that work?”
The work is to trust in God and start, taking one step at a time and believing God will carry you through every step and every obstacle (that will surely come) along the way.
That’s the work.
So, Stop overthinking and START DOING!
Because, YOU are only one of a kind; unique, different with your own set of talents, abilities, weaknesses and experiences.
The world awaits YOU!
Prayers, Strength & Love,
