What happens when you leave your comfort zone?

What happens when you leave your comfort zone?

Are you ready to leave your comfort zone to accomplish the impossible?

But how?

Is it even possible?

Well, let me tell you a story of someone who did leave his position of comfort when he was with his fellow friends and lets see if he could accomplish the impossible.

Matthew 14: 22–33 is an important topic of discussion at all times in churches, among pastors and believers. I will give you a summary. When the Lord tells Peter,”Come” he got down out of the boat, walked on water and started moving towards Jesus. All was well until the moment he saw the wind became afraid hence lost his balance and began to sink. This is always taken in the light of how doubt creeps into our hearts and how we fall when we fail to believe fully in our Saviour’s words.

Well, that’s not how I wish to talk about this today. I decided to change perspective and look at the same event from another angle.

Everyone talks of how Peter doubted, how that doubt made him lose his balance. But dear friend let me tell you how Peter unlike all the other disciples on the boat took the courage to question the Lord and asked Him to call him towards the Lord so that Peter could also walk on water just like Jesus did.

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”– Matthew 14:28.

This was boldness and courage no other disciple dared to take.

How many of us dare to take courage in owning our weaknesses and asking God to replace it with His strength and miracle in order to achieve the impossible instead of giving into self-doubt, limiting beliefs and hopelessness based on situational analysis.

Let’s break down Peter’s situation and see how we can apply it in our lives:

1. Peter had faith in His Lord that if it was really Jesus on the water then Jesus could make him walk on the water too.

How we can apply:

Trust and believe that Jesus can and will help you no matter what your situation. He is all you need however impossible your situation may be.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me – Philippians 4:13

2. He took the bold step in asking Jesus to help Him do the same thing that Jesus did (i.e walking on water)

What we understand:

Only Jesus can walk on water. Well not completely true. Because even Peter did.

Not with his human might, talent or skill but with the Lord’s help he was able to do the exact same

thing that Jesus did.

3. He believed and relied on Jesus to help make him do the humanly impossible task

What we understand:

The Lord is mighty, powerful and can perform miracles beyond human understanding. We all know that. But do we truly believe this in the face of hopeless situations and painful troubles?

How we can apply:

We need to take a bold step, not to see through our troubles or find a way through our pain or solve our situation by ourselves, but in asking the Lord to provide His strength in finding a way through our problems and believing that He can help you with His power and might even if you find no way out whatsoever.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding; in all your words submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3:5-6

4. While the other disciples sat in the boat and merely took no action Peter decided to go overboard in order to achieve the impossible

How we can apply:

We need to leave our comfort zones and take action or we may end up as merely one in the audience.

In order to achieve the impossible learn to seize opportunity, trust God and believe it is possible and mind you if you sink He will still be there to help you just like He helped Peter, so what have you got to lose?

5. When the other disciples saw Peter walk on water, also saw him sink yet God held him up again. Seeing this the other disciples worshiped and praised Him.

Then those who were in the boat worshiped Him saying, “Truly You are the son of God” – Matthew 14:33

How we can apply:

Is doubt and other people’s opinion holding you back? Well it wont be long enough until others get to see and praise the God who helped you through, if you take the bold step in stepping out of the crowd and believing that you can do the impossible if only you just ask God.

Ask and it will be given to you – Matthew 7:7

Hope this post helps you to boldly step out of your comfort zone and ask God to help you in doing the impossible. May the God of the impossible bless you!
