Why do our sins get more exposed when we move closer in faith ?

In spite of these sins of ours, would God still forgive us?

Should you first cleanse all your sins before coming to God?

Should you address them and make it right? but what if you are too ashamed to face your sin?

How can you get it right?

All these doubts are common in a believer’s life. By the grace God has provided me and through the work of the Spirit, you can find your answers in this post.

Have you guys notice how the otherwise clean white sheets or a white floor can expose traces of bacteria and/or germs in the presence of UV light?

Have you guys seen traces of dirt hanging in an otherwise clean room when a ray of sunlight is cast into the room?

Yea, much like that, is how our lives will seem the closer we move to God in our spiritual walk of life. The more we move closer to God, the more we see how sinful we are, or our actions may seem. Some of these actions may not have even been evidently sinful by nature before we came closer to God; we may have lived in the perception that “c’mon I am not committing murder or adultery, so I’m not like a big sinner or anything“. But God’s light falls into our lives exposing our sins that we used to oversee before.

We will learn that, even depending on our own abilities without first seeking God’s direction or not being able to fully believe in God’s deliverance when life seems difficult are small yet powerful ways of thinking that God does not approve of and considers as pride and hence is sinful.

These sins, that you earlier never took seriously but after having a deeper relation with God, may seem like a big deal now and may even stop you from moving forward in your spiritual walk in Him or make you feel unworthy of His grace in your life. No, that’s not something to worry about. It’s completely normal for a maturing Christian to feel this way. We can always trust His forgiveness and grace, which He extends to all.

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. – Hebrews 4:16

So why do we have to face the ugly truth of our silent sins getting uncovered?

Can’t we just keep it behind us, shake it off and move ahead. What stops us? Is it mere guilt?

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.- Ephesians 4: 22-24

When the light of Christ shines upon the darkness of our lives, it exposes our sins, not to discourage us or make us worthless but to humble us to trust in Him, the only one who can not only forgive us but also cleanse us completely.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here! – 2 Corinthians 5:17

God is perfect in His ways and glorious in His acts. To draw closer to such a perfect God would not be that easy with all the imperfections within us.

God is light, and in him is no darkness at all – 1 John 1:5

This makes us want to humble ourselves to rely on Him alone to change us and make us worthy before Him. This is exactly what God expects from us too- a childlike submission devoid of pride. He wants us to rely on Him and ask His help rather than believe we can rely on ourselves.

Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. – Matthew 18:4

Many a time when I feel “O God I cant do anything about this – anything at all”, it leaves me helpless that’s when I feel God closest to me working on my part. This humbles me to believe there are things beyond my control even though I feel I could have controlled it and makes me rely completely on a perfect God to fill in or cover up my imperfections and my inefficiencies .

As for God, his way is perfect – Psalms 18:30

So don’t worry, He’s got you covered. ? You don’t need to wait till you right all your wrongs before moving closer to God. Just draw closer to Him He will do the rest.

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you – James 4:8

All you need to do is just plainly rely on Him and blindly trust in Him to work within you.

Depend on the Lord; trust him, and He will take care of you. – Psalm 37:5

You don’t have to worry about how to change or struggle to right all your wrongs. He will give you the Spirit to discern the right from the wrong. He will bring about the change He so desires in your life. He will forgive and cleanse your sin and bring about a change in you making you completely renewed and fit to be rightly called the citizen of Heaven.

Now, you may ask:

So what? There is nothing at all that I have to do?

So what exactly is it I that you should do?

First of all don’t worry or be anxious.

Do not be anxious about anything – Philippians 4:6

Remember nobody is perfect.

As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; – Romans 3:10

What He wants from you is your trust and obedience, your willingness to give everything up to Him to handle. Give him the reins of your life and you can see your anxiety getting lifted.

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. – James 4:10

Accept that we are all sinners, we all have sinned, it only proves you are human (to err is to human) regardless of the extent or count of your sin.

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God – Romans 3:23

But though we deserve to be cut off from Him due to our sins His grace is bigger that any of our sins and His compassion for you is unlimited.

But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. – Psalm 86:15

You are too precious to Him to want to leave you.

for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31: 6b

So as He reveals to you your sins accept them and ask Him for His forgiveness. Remember, Christ’s sacrifice has already made you eligible of God’s forgiveness and grace.

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. – Ephesians 1: 7-8

That does not mean you have the license to sin, it means you don’t have to feel guilty anymore. You don’t have to try to fix it or compensate for it anyhow. Christ already did that. Instead pray to God asking Him to make the Spirit work in your life to right your wrongs and whilst He is at it, trust that He knows what He is doing and you only need to be still.

Be still and know that I am God – Psalm 46:10
